The Lafayette Police Department is warning the public about a scam involving impersonation of a police officer. The scammer calls potential victims, identifying himself as “Sergeant Jack Martin”.
The caller claims the potential victim owes money for outstanding warrants or missed court dates. The preferred targets are people in the medical profession. Police advise the public not to engage the caller and to hang up. LPD officials remind citizens they don’t call, asking for money under any circumstances.
