The opening weekend for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns didn’t go the way many wanted it to on Sunday afternoon with an offensive explosion in the seventh inning by Louisiana Tech resulting in a 9-0 loss.
How It Happened:
For the first six innings of the contest, neither team seemed to break through and put runs on the board. However, the Bulldogs broke up the scoreless tie in the top of the seventh with Parker Bates drilling one out to right field for a grand slam.
Cole McConnell followed that up later in the inning with an RBI single to score Shemar Page. The offensive onslaught continued with Adarius Myers getting a two-run triple, putting the Bulldogs up 7-0. Jorge Corona finished up the seventh inning score-fest for the Bulldogs with a sac fly that scored Steele Netterville.
Bates kept the train rolling in the eighth inning with a sac fly to really seal the deal on a victory, but Corona stamped the victory home with another sacrifice fly in the ninth that scored Netterville
Big Number: 1
The Cajuns bats remained cold on Sunday afternoon with only one hit coming from Jonathan Windham. The opening weekend was definitely not kind for the Cajuns offense.
Player of the Game: Parker Bates
Bates definitely made a strong case for the Conference USA Player of the Week honors this week and Sunday may have been the exclamation point on the weekend. The senior only had one hit, but it was the most important one with the grand salami. Add the sacrifice fly in the ninth and he was without a doubt the most impactful player on the team.
