Big Seventh Inning Pushes Texas Past LSU In Series Opener

The 18th-ranked Texas Longhorns came alive in the seventh inning and was a big reason why they were able to hand the top-ranked LSU Tigers their first loss of the season on Friday night.

How It Happened:

LSU wasted little time getting on the board with Zach Watson scoring on a wild pitch, but Bryce Elder was able to find his rhythm and make short work of the Tigers typically high-powered offense.

The Longhorns knotted things up in the bottom of the third when Shaw was walked with the bases loaded, but they started to open things up when Duke Ellis lifted one out to left field to make it a 3-1 ballgame.

Texas really started to put the hurt on the Tigers in the bottom of the seventh, putting up five runs highlighted by a two-run single by Masen Hibbeler.

Big Number: 5

The number five was definitely the key for the Longhorns, especially in the seventh inning with five hits resulting in five runs. It was impressive to see what they were able to do against a typically stout LSU defense.

Player of the Game: Duke Ellis

The Longhorns leadoff hitter proved to be a huge help for their offense, especially with a two-run bomb in the fourth that gave them the lead.
