Big Time Coaches Issues With Big Time Decisions

Posted by davidschultz on January 2, 2018 in Blogs, Featured

Not sure there could’ve been more football over the weekend.  Bowl games, final regular season week of the NFL and the CFP two semi final games. Once again we see big time coaches having issues making big time decisions.

Down 10 in the 3rd quarter, Miami Hurricanes Head Coach, Mark Richt punted from the 50 on 4th & 2.  After surpassing 500 yards of offense, with the Heisman Trophy Winner on his side, and needing a touchdown to advance, OU Coach Lincoln Riley kicked a FG instead of going for it on 4th & 1 in the first overtime.

Perhaps the most peculiar decision was LSU’s Ed Orgeron’s.  After two different place kickers each missed earlier FGs and needing about one foot for a touchdown, the tough talking cajun Tiger, went for the three.

What do all three of coaches and teams have in common?  They lost.

By the way, up four and facing a 4th & 1, Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide converted a first down.  A couple of plays later they found the end zone.  In a related story, Alabama won and will play Georgia for the National Championship.  Coincidence I’m sure.
