On short notice, Brandon Young came up huge for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns and helped them take the rubber match by the score of 6-1.
How It Happened:
The Red Wolves struck first with a ground-rule double in the fourth by Sky-Lar Culver to score Will Zimmerman. However, Daniel Lahare tied things up in the bottom frame with an RBI single to first base, getting Handsome Monica across home plate.
The Cajuns offense came alive once again in the bottom of the fifth with a four-run inning that was highlighted by a pair of RBI singles from Todd Lott and Monica. Hunter Kasuls put the icing on the proverbial cake in the sixth inning when he scored off of a failed pickoff attempt.
Big Number: 13
Young did something that no Cajuns pitcher had done since Austin Robichaux and that was strikeout 13 batters. Saturday was a big breakout performance for him, especially coming off of labrum surgery last year. Add the fact that he did it on very short notice due to original starter Jack Burk getting sick, it was a sight to behold.
Player of the Game: Brandon Young
When your name is being mentioned alongside one of the best pitchers in program history, it’s safe to say you earned the honor of being player of the game and perhaps even the Pitcher of the Week according to the Sun Belt Conference.
