Breaux Bridge Runs Past Beau Chene, 40-0

BREAUX BRIDGE – Sophomore running back Mason Demouchet scored on touchdown runs of 57, 45, and 8 yards to lead the Breaux Bridge Tigers to a dominant 40-0 win over Beau Chene.

The Tigers led 32-0 at the half as they were able to control the line of scrimmage and break off a number of long runs against the Gators defense.

It was a second consecutive underwhelming performance by the Gators, who have been outscored 80-20 in the last two weeks. The loss dropped them to 5-3 on the season, and into fourth place in District 6-4A.

Breaux Bridge has now won back-to-back games for the first time this season, edging closer to a potential playoff appearance.

Demouchet opened the scoring with his 57 yard score. The two point conversion (Breaux Bridge was 5-5 on conversion attempts), made it 8-0 with 9:11 to play in the first quarter.

Late in the first, the Tigers put together a lengthy drive, capped by a 10 yard rushing TD from sophomore Jamal Sylvester, doubling the Tigers’ lead.

Breaux Bridge repeated the formula in the second quarter, starting with Demouchet’s second touchdown run and ending with a 68 yard touchdown from Caleb Goodie with :32 to go in the first half.

After a scoreless third quarter, Demouchet scored on the first play of the fourth, putting a bow on the impressive effort.

“We’re back. We started off rough this season,” Demouchet said. “We’re back to turn it up, make the playoffs, and make a run.

Demouchet is also motivated by a teammate and parent who are suffering from cancer.

“My mama. I play for her every night,” he added. “Every time I get to play football, I play for her.”

That passion my carry the Tigers back to the postseason, who have Opelousas and Livonia remaining on their schedule.

For the still developing Beau Chene program, hopefully this was a hard lesson learned on the road to becoming consistent contenders in the district.

“(Breaux Bridge) took it to us,” said coach Marcques Lewis. “There’s a reason why they’re Breaux Bridge and they’re strong. They have pride in everything they do, and we’re emerging to their level…it’s something I look forward to.”

The Gators will look to rebound next week against Albany in a non-district contest before the season finale versus Opelousas.
