The Ragin Cajuns struck early and often on Sunday afternoon to complete a three-game sweep over Sam Houston State (0-3) in a convincing 13-3 victory.
Joe Robbins got things started once again with a leadoff triple that was followed up by Brenn Conrad hitting him home with a single to the right side to make it 1-0. Kyle Clement got his first of five hits on the day with a single to left center that sent Conrad home. The Cajuns kept it going in the bottom of the first with Ishmael Edwards hitting one to the pitcher, but due a throwing error, Edwards was safe and the error wound up getting Stefan Trosclair home.
Riley McKnight got the Bearkats on the board in the top of the third with a sacrifice that got Lance Miles home. Robie Rojas got the Cajuns lead down to one in the top of the fourth with a single down the left side of the field that got Zach Smith to home safely.
Trosclair finally got his first hit of the season in the bottom of the fourth, an RBI double to left field that scored Robbins. However, Bryce Johnson got the Bearkats within one in the top of the fifth with a single up the middle that scored Taylor Beene to make it 4-3.
But the Cajuns closed the door on the Bearkats hopes in the bottom of the fifth with a six run inning that ended with an RBI single by Clement to make it 9-3.
Eric Carter was credited with the win allowing only one run off three hits and striking out three on the afternoon. Freshman pitcher Nick Lee debuted as the starter on Sunday and went four innings, allowing two runs off of three hits, walking two, hitting one batter, and striking out three.
The Cajuns (3-0) will head up north to Ruston to take on LA Tech (2-1) on Wednesday with firt pitch set for 6 pm.
