The Cajuns and the Jags went back and forth early on in the first half, but the Cajuns were able to take control of the game late in the first half with a 9-0 run late to head into the locker room up 46-44.
The Cajuns controlled the second half from the outset with an early 14-3 run to make it a double digit lead that they would not let go of the rest of the game.
Shepherd had a career-high 27 points three boards, one assist, and two steals on the night. Shepherd along with five other players were in double digits.
Ken Williams led South Alabama with 16 points, one board, and one steal on the night.
The Cajuns (8-8, 4-3 SBC) will next face the Troy Trojans (6-11, 1-5 SBC) on Saturday with tipoff set for 6:15 PM.
