Ragin’ Cajuns women’s basketball senior Ty’Reona Doucet has been named the Sun Belt Conference’s Preseason Player of the Year. Both Doucet and Brandi Williams acquired Preseason First Team All-Conference honors Thursday morning.
With the two All-League performers, the Cajuns were selected to finish second in the 2021-2022 Preseason Coaches Poll.
Doucet, a Ville Platte native, started in all 21 games that she appeared in a season ago. She finished second on the team in scoring, averaging 10.9 points a game and lead the team in both rebounds with 167 and blocks with 36. Doucet lead the Sun Belt with a 52.4 field goal shooting percentage, making 89 out of 170 shot attempts.
The 36 recorded blocks were third most in the conference and 70th in the nation. In her career, Doucet has 116 blocks and joined Anna Petrakova as the only players in program history to produce at least 1000 career points, 700 career rebounds and 100 blocks.
After Doucet’s impressive season, she was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year, which makes her the first player to earn the award in program history and got First Team All-Conference honors.
Williams led offensively with 11.9 points per game, and finished with double digit points 15 times during the season, including a 20 point performance at Texas State and a career high 32 points at ULM. The Lake Charles native shot 45.2 percentage from 3-point range, making 45 out of 104 attempts. Those 47 made 3-pointers were third most in the Sun Belt and 134th nationally, while her 81.1 free throw percentage ranked fourth in the conference and 103rd in the nation.
Williams finished her year with a Second Team All-Sun Belt honor.
