The Ragin Cajuns handled their business for the fourth straight night as they rolled over the Troy Trojans (6-13, 1-7 SBC) by the score of 88-65.
The Cajuns and the Trojans started out going back and forth, but they pushed forward late in the first half with a 15-2 run about midway through the second quarter to take a sizable 49-31 lead at the half.
Cajuns head coach Bob Marlin said after the game that “Jay Hedgeman came in gave us a boost ran a couple of plays got the ball in the basket. Bryce was big early in the game our defense was pretty good, got us the lead at the half”
The second half started with a few hiccups. “Really disappointed where we started slipping,” Marlin explained. “We jumped in a press out of a timeout and Kasey (Shepherd) gets a steal, throws it right to him and he dribbles in and is careless with the ball, he gets it blocked. The very next trip (Johnathan) Stove gets a steal, gets off balance misses a layup.”
But the Cajuns were able to keep up with the Trojans going cold in the second half.
Long stuffed the stat sheet in the Cajundome on Saturday night with the aforementioned 20 points, 14 boards, three assists, three blocks and one steal. Bryce Washington came up with 16 points, two boards, two assists, one block, and one steal.
Jordon Varnado led the Trojans with 15 points, six boards, and one steal before exiting early due to foul trouble.
The Cajuns (9-8, 5-3 SBC) will stay at home to take on Texas State on Thursday with tipoff at 7:15 pm.
