The Ragin Cajuns and the New Mexico State Aggies traded the lead nine times in total during the Saturday afternoon matchup in front of a sparse crowd at Cajun Field. And the Aggies were able to come away with the win off of a late field goal in final minutes.
The Aggies got things going with Parker Davidson booting one from 44 yards through the uprights.
But Brooks Haack gave the Cajuns the lead with a 20 yard pass to Al Riles to go up 7-3.
Andrew Allen, who just hours prior had attended funeral services for his father, gave the Aggies the lead back with a 58-yard pass to Andrew Allen. Davidson stayed true with a 33 yarder to go up 13-7.
Eli McGuire had been shut down the last couple of weeks, but he broke out to give the Cajuns the lead back with a 64-yard run. But Allen continued to play inspired football with a 21-yard pass to Gregory Hogan to have the lead once again.
But walk-on kicker Aaron Bird ended the first half by cutting away at the Aggies lead with a 23-yarder. Bird followed that up with a 31-yarder that was booted through the uprights to tie it up.
Allen got his third touchdown late in the third quarter with a 23-yard pass to Teldrick Morgan to take the lead once more.
The Cajuns began to rally in the fourth quarter with McGuire getting it into the endzone from 27 yards out to tie it up again. The Cajuns took back the lead with Haack connecting with fifth-year senior Jamal Robinson.
Allen got the game tied up again with another touchdown pass to Hogan. And the scoring ended just as it began with Davidson hitting a 21-yard chipshot through the uprights to give the Aggies their third straight win.
The Cajuns will now travel to Boone, North Carolina to take on the Appalachian State Mountaineers on Saturday, November 28th with kickoff set for 1 pm.
