The Ragin Cajuns had a reversal of fortune on Saturday night against Appalachian State (15-32, 9-17 SBC) with a 6-1 loss to even up the series at one game apiece.
The Mountaineers wasted no time getting on the board when Brian Bauk grounded out to second base in the top of the first that would score Matt Vernon.
App State got another run across in the top of the fifth with a double down the left field line by Jason Curtis to allow Schmid to reach home to make it 2-0. The Mountaineers began to put the game out of reach in the top of the seventh with a four run inning capped off by a two run triple by Vernon which he followed up by scoring on a passed ball.
The sole Cajuns run came from the bat of Brian Mills in the bottom of the eighth when he grounded out to third base and that allowed Nick Thurman to score.
Wyatt Marks dropped to 3-6 on the year allowing two runs off of four hits and struck out six batters in six innings of work.
The Cajuns (30-17, 15-8 SBC) will look to win the rubber match on Sunday against App State with first pitch set for noon.
