The Ragin Cajuns and the Arkansas State Red Wolves (13-12, 4-6 SBC) started off their weekend series scoring in bunches on Friday night. But the Red Wolves were able to come away with a 7-6 win over the Cajuns in Jonesboro.
The Red Wolves got on the board first with an RBI single by Tanner Ring in the bottom of the third. Later in the inning, Matt Burgess busted things open with a three run shot to left field to go up 4-0 early.
Ty White got another run across for the Red Wolves with an RBI single down the left field line in the bottom of the fourth. The Red Wolves put two more across in the bottom of the fifth, to take a commanding 7-0 lead.
The Cajuns weren’t about to go away quietly, putting on the rally caps in the top of the sixth and getting five runs across, with the sixth being capped off by a two-run single by Brian Mills.
The attempt at a rally continued in the top of the seventh with an RBI single by Steven Sensley to cut the lead to one run, but the rally was stifled by Arkansas State to come away with the win.
Gunner Leger dropped to 3-2 on the year allowing five runs off of five hits, walking three, and striking out two in 4 innings of work.
The Cajuns (16-10, 6-4 SBC) will try to even up the series on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 4 pm.
