The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns’ men’s basketball team defeated the Southeastern Lions 68-61 on Wednesday night inside the Cajundome. The win was much needed for Louisiana, as it snaps a 7 game losing streak.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The game began with Southeastern being able to find points from close range. After it was 11-9, the Lions went on a 13-3 run to extend their lead to 24-12.
Louisiana battled for the rest of the half to try to get back within double figures, and did so inside of six minutes left when Christian Wright converted an and-one to get it to 31-22. Brandon Hardy made his season debut for Louisiana in that first half of play.
Down the stretch of the half, the Cajuns inched closer, getting within two at one point. By the break, SLU’s lead was just four at 35-31.
The Cajuns got off to a rough start in the second half, falling back down by nine. However, three straight made threes got them back into it.
With 12:45 to play, the Cajuns took their first lead of the game at 49-47. After that point, both teams struggled to try to separate. Neither team was able to create a lead of more than three points.
Inside of one minute left, Kentrell Garnett made a clutch three to give UL the lead with 0:42 to play. That made it 64-61. The Cajuns would close it out and hold on for a 68-61 win.
BIG NUMBER: 3
