The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns women’s basketball team came up big as it was Senior Night for Ty Doucet, Brandi Williams and Diamond Morrison. The Cajuns were able to cruise by the Georgia State Panthers by the score of 64-48.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Louisiana didn’t start off too hot as Georgia State had the game’s first two baskets within the first 72 seconds of the game. Tamera Johnson and Lanay Wheaton got it going for the Cajuns scoring and would go on a 10-1 run.

The Panthers defense called for a full-court press and applied some pressure, but Destiny Rice and her squad got a couple of tough buckets and were up 17-9 after 10 minutes of play.

Caira Wren pushed the lead even further for the Ragin’ Cajuns as she converted on the and-1 layup, followed by a Wheaton jump shot to open the second quarter to put the score at 22-9.

At the 4:29 mark State’s Elexus Bell cut their deficit down to within six with an off-hand hook shot. The Cajuns, though, went to the break with the 28-20 lead over the Panthers.

Louisiana extended their lead in the third quarter as Wheaton, Johnson and Makayia all scored before the halfway point. After a Deasia Merill bucket, the Cajuns went on a 19-4 run finish out the quarter. The run was consisted mainly of three made shots back-to-back-to-back by Johnson and Doucet scoring seven.

Georgia State continued their press and forced a few turnovers that converted into some easy fast break shots as they tried to cut down Louisiana’s enormous lead.

The Cajuns ultimately closed out the game strong as they defeated the Georgia State Panthers 64-48, thanks to a couple extra late baskets by Lafaedria Green and Skyler Christmas.

BIG NUMBER: 45

The Cajuns out-rebounded the Panthers 45-30 as they controlled the boards all night on the offensive and defensive end.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Tamera Johnson

Johnson nearly had a double-double as she recorded 12 points and a team high eight rebounds to help her team get the big win on Senior Night.

UP NEXT: Louisiana (15-6) will be back Saturday afternoon to play Georgia Southern with tip off set for 2 p.m.
