Louisiana and Baylor started Sunday with the Cajuns needing to win twice to advance to a Super Regional. With the home crowd behind them, the Cajuns erupted for a 10-run fourth inning on the way to a 13-0 rout of the Bears.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Mihyia Davis started the game with a single on the first pitch then Laney Credeur drew a walk. The first out came when a grounder from Roe went to the shortstop and Baylor got the lead runner at third. Shortly after, Victoria Valdez singled to load the bases for Alexa Langeliers, who grounded out to the shortstop but the run came into score. A single by Brooke Ellestad scored a second run, but Valdez tried to sneak a second run on the play but was called out at home for the third out as the Cajuns scored a pair in the first.
Credeur started the third with a single before Roe reached on a fielder’s choice and Valde was hit by a pitch. Brooke Ellestad then sent one to left field that hit off the top of the wall, scoring Roe and keeping the bases loaded with one out.
In the fourth, Maddie Hayden singled before stealing second to put a runner in scoring position for Davis, who singled to center field which scored Hayden. However, on an errant throw to the plate, Davis moved to second on the play to increase the lead to 4-0. Credeur delivered again with an RBI double to increase the lead to 5-0 in the fourth.
Roe was walked and Valdez was hit by a pitch for the 17th time this season, tying the program record before Langeliers was walked to send in a run and make it 6-0. On a 3-2 pitch, Ellestad sent a grand slam to the left field bleachers to make it a 10-0 game in the fourth.
Credeur came up big again in the fourth with a two-run single to extend the lead to 12-0 over Baylor. Roe hit a blooper to the pitcher as Hayden came in on the close play to add yet another run for Louisiana in the fourth.
Sam Landry came in for the final two innings as the Cajuns run-ruled the Bears to advance to the final, winner-take-all game.
