The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns, fresh off of capturing their fifth straight Sun Belt Conference regular season title, welcomed Troy to Lamson Park for the final series of the regular season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first three innings featured two good arms and strong defensive efforts to keep the game scoreless. However, Troy got on the board in the fourth after Taylor McKinney drew a walk, Libby Baker lined a single, Anslee Finch grounded out to advance the runners and then Cassidy Boltz reached on a fielder’s choice, scoring the run and giving the Trojans a 1-0 lead.
After a hit by pitch loaded the bases, Sam Landry was replaced by Chloe Riassetto, who gave up a single to the first batter she faced, Sarah Beth Brake, to make it a 2-0 game.
Louisiana’s bat made good contact throughout the game, but the ball was going straight to the Trojan infielders, keeping the Cajuns off the scoreboard.
In the top of the seventh, Brake launched a solo home run to center to increase Troy’s lead to 3-0 over the Cajuns with just one at bat remaining.
BIG NUMBER: 3
Louisiana only managed three base hits on the night, struggling to get anything going in a 3-0 defeat.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Sarah Beth Brake
The Troy catcher had two runs batted in, one on the RBI single in the fourth and then the solo home run in the seventh.
UP NEXT: Louisiana and Troy will return to Lamson Park on Friday for Game 2 of the final regular season series. First pitch tomorrow is set for 6pm.
