Louisiana Women’s Basketball opened Sun Belt Conference play inside the friendly confines of the Cajundome. Their opponent was the Georgia State Panthers, and the Ragin Cajuns were able to fight off the Panthers in a 54-41 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Louisiana jumped out to a 7-4 advantage early in the contest with two driving layups and a three-pointer. Both items would go scoreless over the next two and a half minutes before Georgia State cut into the lead.
At the end of the first quarter, Lousiana had a 14-12 lead with Nubia Benedith leading the Cajuns. For the Panthers, Mykyla Tolivert led scorers with 10.
In the second quarter, the game stayed very close as the Cajuns only held a 25-23 lead at the halftime break.
Louisiana spaced away early in the third quarter, pushing it out to a 35-29 advantage after outscoring the Panthers 10-6 in the opening five minutes of the half.
At the end of the quarter, Louisiana held a 43-32 advantage after back-to-back three-pointers to end the quarter. Lanay Wheaton led the Cajuns with 13.
Louisiana finished out the game on an 11-9 advantage to secure a 54-41 win over Georgia State. Lanay Wheaton led all scores with 16.
