Part 1 Cajuns Hoops ’17-’18 – Best Ever?

Posted by davidschultz on January 19, 2018 in Blogs

The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Men’s Basketball team won their sixth straight game and 12th in the last 13 games as they routed the UT-Arlington Mavericks 77-65 Thursday night in Texas.

In the 2nd half, they ran around, thru and over the Mavericks outscoring them 45-21.  Inside a 28-8 run the Cajuns used a 20-2 run to turn a 50-40 deficit to a 60-52 lead.

Frank Bartley led all scorers with 26 and Bryce Washington just missed another double-double with nine points and 16 rebounds.  Jonathan Stove’s defense on the Sun Belt’s top scorer Kevin Hervey and despite foul trouble, Marcus Stroman scored 10 of his 12 points in the 2nd half to lift the Cajuns.

And while other versions of Cajuns basketball may be more historic, the 2017-2018 team may prove to be the best ever.  The most wins a Cajuns team has is 25 in 1971-1972.  They’ve had 24 wins in twice (’73 & ’82).  Thursday’s Cajuns victory was their 16th this season.  They could easily set a new mark for wins in school history.  Will this team be the best Cajuns team ever?
