Cajuns head coach Tony Robichaux said recently that one of the keys to victory this weekend in the Houston College Classic would be to not allow three run innings. That was exactly what happened on Friday afternoon as the TCU Horned Frogs (4-1) came away with a 7-1 win.
The Ragin Cajuns got things started in the top of the third with Joe Robbins hitting a triple and Brenn Conrad bunting him home to make it 1-0.
The Horned Frogs tied things up in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice grounder by Cam Warner that sent Dane Steinhagen home.
In the bottom of the fifth, TCU’s bats came alive with Connor Wanhanen with an RBI single that scored Steinhagen to give the Horned Frogs the lead. Luken Baker hit an RBI single that scored Wanhanen. Josh Watson put two on the board with a double to left field to make it a four-run fifth.
Steinhagen put the dagger in the Cajuns hopes of rallying with a two-run bomb to left centerfield.
Gunner Leger got the loss allowing five runs, two of which were earned, off of seven hits, and striking out four batters.
The Ragin Cajuns (3-2) continue the weekend at Minute Maid Park when they take on Texas Tech (5-1) with first pitch set for noon.
