At the beginning of the Hudspeth regime, he was able to get the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (1-3, 0-1 Sun Belt) back from a 35-24 deficit against UL Monroe (1-2, 1-0 Sun Belt) to win 36-35.
It seemed like something similar was going to happen on Saturday night after the Cajuns came back from down 43-22 about halfway through the fourth quarter after Caleb Evans scored his fifth rushing touchdown of the evening.
The Cajuns got back in the game with a one-yard run from Trey Ragas to make it 29-43 with seven minutes left in the ballgame. The Cajuns made it a one possession game after forcing the Warhawks to punt and got within one possession with Nunez connecting with Jarrod Jackson on a 12-yard pass from Andre Nunez.
The Cajuns wound up forcing a three and out with 1:56 left on the clock and tied it up with no time left on the clock with Nunez connecting with JaMarcus Bradley in the endzone.
Both teams exchanged touchdowns in the first overtime period with Evans connecting with Andre Turner and Nunez taking it in himself to force double overtime.
The Cajuns wound up at the Warhawk 22 and just missed making a 39-yard field goal. Four plays later, Derrick Gore delivered the biggest gut punch to the Cajuns fans with a run up the middle to come away with a 56-50 win over their in-state rivals.
The Cajuns will have a week off before traveling to Moscow, Idaho to take on the Vandals (2-2, 1-0 Sun Belt) with kickoff set for 4 pm.
