Preseason nationally ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Softball, the three-time defending Sun Belt champions, has been named the favorite to win the 2023 Sun Belt Conference softball title, and six team members were selected to the 2023 Preseason All-Sun Belt Softball Team, the conference office announced on Thursday.
Louisiana (47-13, 23-4 in 2022) were the unanimous choice in the preseason coaches poll, receiving all 12 first-place votes. This is the fifth straight year the Cajuns were picked as the favorite.
Sophie Piskos (C), Stormy Kotzelnick (1B), Alexa Langeliers (SS), Jourdyn Campbell (3B), Maddie Hayden (OF), and Karly Heath (DP) were the six players named to the Preseason All-SBC Team.
Six honorees from a single team is the most in the conference, with Texas State being the next closest at 3.
Sun Belt softball begins play on Friday, February 10th with the conference tournament taking place at Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park May 10-13.
Louisiana has been a postseason participant each year since 1999 and has only missed once since 1990. The Cajuns will open their season in the 37th Annual Louisiana Classics Friday February 10-12th. Louisiana’s first game is set for 4:30 p.m. on Friday Febuary 10th against Lafayette College.
