Coming off a career night in which he moved into a tie for third on Louisiana’s all-time scoring list, Stevie Artigue was named the Sun Belt Special Teams Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday morning.
In Saturday’s 53-3 win over the Troy Trojans, the former Lafayette High Mighty Lion put up a career-high 15 points and made all three of his field-goal attempts with two of those from over 40 yards out. Artigue has now made 11 straight field goals, seven away from the program record for the longest streak of made field goals.
His career point total increased to 286 after Saturday’s victory, tying him with Brian Mitchell for third on the team’s all-time scoring list and pulled him within eight points of second place all-time, which is currently held by Tyrell Fenroy (294).
The senior is the second special teams player to receive the honor, joining punter Rhys Byrns who garnered the recognition following a big performance against Appalachian State on Oct. 9. Artigue is the fifth different player from Louisiana to earn the recognition this season.
The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns will wrap up the 2019 regular season on Saturday in an in-state rivalry matchup against UL Monroe with kickoff set for 6:30 pm. It will be a pivotal game for the Cajuns as they look to earn their tenth win of the season and it will be nationally televised on ESPNU.
