The Ragin Cajuns were able to get the series win on Sunday afternoon in the rubber match against Appalachian State (15-33, 9-18 SBC) thanks to some small ball late.
The Mountaineers got on the board two pitches in with a solo shot from Tyler Stroup to make it 1-0. But the Cajuns wasted no time in responding with Hunter Kasuls leading off with a triple off the right field wall. This was followed up by Brian Mills grounding out to the shortstop and that gave Kasuls a chance to reach home to tie things up.
Both teams struggled to score up until the bottom of the eighth when the Cajuns got back to their signature small ball with a pair of singles from Kyle Clement and Stefan Trosclair. Joe Robbins made his return to the lineup after having a sore wrist for the last two games of the series and hit a perfect bunt that allowed Clement to score to give the Cajuns the lead.
Brad Antchak would put the nail in the coffin later in the inning with a two-run single down the left field line.
Dylan Moore improved to 5-1 on the year with two shutout innings, walking one, and striking out two in relief.
The Cajuns (31-17, 16-8 SBC) will hit the road on Tuesday to take on Houston with first pitch set for 5 pm.
