The Ragin Cajuns took care of business on Sunday night with a 6-3 victory against South Alabama (37-16, 20-7 SBC) in the rubber match of the series.
Brenn Conrad got the Cajuns on the board after the bases were loaded in the top of the first with a two run single through the right side. Kennon Fontenot would be walked just two batters later to send another run across to make it 3-0. Nick Thurman would get another one across with a sac fly to right field that would score Joe Robbins.
Stefan Trosclair made it 5-0 in the top of the second with a double down the left field line that scored Kyle Clement.
But the Jags weren’t about to go away quietly, finally getting on the board in the top of the fifth with a single through the left side by Ben Gann that allowed Brendan Donovan to score.
Cole Billingsley began an eighth inning rally for the Jags scoring off of a wild pitch. Jared Barnes would continue the attempt at a rally later in the inning when he grounded out to third base and that would allow Drew LaBounty to scamper across home plate.
But the Cajuns would put the nail in the coffin in the top of the ninth with a double down the left field line from Steven Sensley that would get Jam Williams across.
Hogan Harris improved to 2-0 on the year allowing two runs off of two hits, walked two, and struck out four in two and two-thirds innings of relief. Eric Carter got his third save of the year striking all three of the batters he faced in the ninth inning.
The Cajuns (33-19, 18-9 SBC) will hit the road again on Tuesday when they take on the UNO Privateers (30-20) with first pitch set for 6:30 pm. The last time this two teams faced off, the Cajuns took down the Privateers at the Tigue by the score of 7-4.
