The midweek games for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (17-17) certainly have a flair for the dramatic and Wednesday night was no exception with an extra innings matchup against Southeastern Louisiana (24-13).
How It Happened
The Lions got on the board early with Cody Grosse scoring off of a groundout by Kyle Schimpf. Trey Morgan made it 2-0 in the fourth when he blasted one out to left field.
The Cajuns fought back in the sixth with a three-run inning capped off by a two-run single up the middle by Hunter Kasuls. It didn’t last though as Southeastern Louisiana tied things up in the seventh with a sac fly by Trennon Trosclair that scored Brennan Braud.
It remained knotted at three until the bottom of the 11th when Kennon Fontenot hit a clutch walkoff single over the second baseman’s head to get the 4-3 win.
Michael Chaumont got his first win of the season with one inning of relief, facing the minimum.
Big Number: 10
The Cajuns bats were able to get things done with 10 hits on the evening, but it didn’t lead to a whole lot of runs on the board. The same could be said for the Lions with only three runs off of eight hits. At the end of the day, the Cajuns were able to get it done with two outs on the board when it mattered the most.
Player of the Game: Hunter Kasuls
His two-run single helped the Cajuns get out in front in the sixth was a big part of the Cajuns success on the evening.
