If there’s a right way to open up a newly renovated stadium, this might have been the way to do it.
The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (5-3) finally got back to their home on Friday night and gave the 5,250 fans that made it to the first game inside the newly renovated Tigue at Russo Park a night to remember as they took the first game of a three-game series against Southern Miss (7-2).
Southern Miss would strike first in the top of the second with a sac fly from Storme Cooper that sent home Daniel Keating. It wouldn’t take long for a rebuttal from the Cajuns as Sensley led off the bottom of the second with the first home run in the newly renovated ballpark into deep center field to tie things up.
Later in the inning, Kennon Fontenot gave the Cajuns the lead with an RBI triple to right center field.
The Cajuns would get an insurance run after Brenn Conrad took a hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 3-1.
Gunner Leger improved to 2-1 on the year allowing one run off four hits and striking out eight batters on the evening. Dylan Moore got his third save of the season with one inning of work striking out three of the five batters he faced.
The Cajuns will looks to clinch the series on Saturday with first pitch set for 2 pm.
