The Ragin’ Cajuns started off their season with a wild extra innings win over Sam Houston State (0-1) by the score of 2-1.
Most of this matchup between the Cajuns and the Bearcats looked like a classic pitcher’s duel between Gunner Leger and Sam Odom, keeping it scoreless until the seventh inning. In the top of the seventh, the scoring drought for both teams was broken with Matt Broadbent reaching on a fielder’s choice that allowed Bryce Johnson to get home safely.
Brenn Conrad responded in a big way in the bottom half of the inning with a bomb to right field to tie it all up.
It remained all tied up until the bottom of the 10th when Derek Herrington ran down the third base line off a wild pitch to score the game winner.
Dylan Moore is credited with his first win of the season, throwing two and two-thirds of an inning of relief pitching. The sophomore did not allow a hit, walked one and fanned three. Gunner Leger had a solid outing as well in his first start of 2016, allowing only one hit in six innings and striking out three.
Miles Manning is the losing pitcher on the night coming in for Odom who pitched eight solid innings allowing one run off two hits and struck out eight batters.
The Cajuns (1-0) will try and win their first series of the regular season against Sam Houston State tomorrow with first pitch set for 2 pm.
