The five game win streak for the Ragin Cajuns looked to be in jeopardy on Saturday night against UT Arlington (14-6, 5-4 SBC) at the end of the first half, but the Cajuns were able to pull away in the second half to make it six straight wins by the score of 90-75.
The Cajuns came out of the opening tipoff firing on all cylinders, going on an 11-3 run, but the Mavericks were able to go on a solid run to make it 9-2 run to make it 13-12. It continued to be a back and forth matchup between the two and they headed into the locker room at the end of the first half knotted up at 42.
The second half began exactly as the first ended, with both teams trying to pull away, but remained close early on. But the Cajuns were able to go on a 14-2 run and that was enough to help them pull away and get the big win over UT Arlington.
Shawn Long stuffed the stat sheet with 22 points, 15 boards, one assist, six blocks, and one steal on the afternoon. Bryce Washington was behind Long with 16 points, nine boards, two assists, and one steal.
Erick Neal lead UT Arlington with 20 points, three boards, seven assists, and one steal on the afternoon.
The Cajuns (11-8, 7-3 SBC) will end their home stand pursuing seven straight wins on Tuesday night against UL Monroe (10-11, 6-4 SBC) with tipoff set for 7:15 pm. The two teams last faced off in Monroe on December 3rd and the Warhawks came away with an 80-71 win over the Cajuns.
