Catholic High’s Amos Verbally Commits to UL Football Team

Posted by Raymond Partsch III on August 9, 2019 in Blogs, Featured, Latest News, Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, RP3's Blogs

Trey Amos is staying close to home.

The Catholic High of New Iberia star verbally committed to the University of Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns on Friday. The 6-foot-1, 173-pound athlete made the announcement on his Twitter account as he wrote the following:

“I stayed up plenty of nights thinking and praying about what college would best fit my new journey. The school I’m committing to today made me feel at home every time I visited. Most importantly they made me feel like I was their “Top Priority” and I thank each and everyone of you! I would like to thank God, my family, coaches and everyone that helped along the way for pushing and believing in me. With that being said I’m proud to announce that I will be furthering my football career at University of Louisiana at Lafayette. #RaginCajuns #thecULture #YESSIR #LouisianaMade.”

Amos first got on recruiter’s radar as a sophomore when he lined up at cornerback and helped Catholic High win the LHSAA Division III state championship. This past season, Amos lined up at quarterback, and some at cornerback, as he helped lead the Panthers back to the state championship game.

Amos was coveted by both programs in the SBC and the rest of the state.

The Catholic High star, who is also the reigning Class 2A long jump state champion, had scholarship offers from UL conference foes South Alabama, Arkansas State, UL Monroe, as well as such other schools as Louisiana Tech, Southern University, Nicholls State and Northwestern State.

The commitment of Amos also continues the pipeline of sorts from head coach Brent Indest’s program in New Iberia to the Ragin’ Cajuns — a list that includes defensive tackle Zi’Yon Hill (2017), wide receiver Peter LeBlanc (2019) and now Amos (2020).

According to 247 Sports, UL now has the No. 72 nationally ranked recruiting class for 2020 and the No. 1 ranked class in the Sun Belt Conference. The Cajuns have 15 commitments for the 2020 class and with 12 of those are rated as three-star prospects by 247Sports.
