For two talented Class of 2027 basketball recruits, their time is now.
Tyrone Jamison’s elite floor general skills helped lead Calvary to its fifth state championship game in six seasons.
Caroline Bradley’s dominance in the post got Oak Grove one step closer to a long-awaited state championship as it reached the state championship game for the first time since 2010.
As a result of their play on the hardwood, both players highlight the LSWA Class 2A basketball teams as Most Outstanding Players.
Jamison averaged 15.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 6.7 assists to help the Cavaliers return to the boys Marsh Madness tournament under Vic Morris. Jamison, who is ranked as the top point guard on ESPN’s Class of 2027 recruiting ranks, scored at least 19 points in each of the semifinals and finals.
Bradley posted 20.6 points, 14.5 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game as the Lady Tigers sought to end a 66-year title drought. They nearly did as Bradley, the No. 5 ranked Class of 2027 player by ESPN, posted 38 points, 22 rebounds and six blocks in the title game.
Scheming the perfect game plan against blue chippers like Jamison and Bradley is tough, but Metairie Park Country Day’s Mike McGuire and Oakdale’s Renotta Edwards were up for the task.
Both coaches earned Coach of the Year honors for leading their teams to state titles.
McGuire guided the Cajuns to a 26-6 record and their first title since 2019 despite a midseason injury to Herman Dyson – a second teamer on the boys 2A list. Country Day finished the year on an 11-1 run that included a win against district rival Newman.
Edwards’ Lady Warriors won their second title in three years after closing the season on a 21-1 clip. Oakdale was battle tested all season – playing the likes of Lafayette Christian, Fairview, Madison Prep and Parkway.
