The final three innings of Sunday rubber match between Wright State (2-4) and the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (2-5) will be one of those games that many Cajuns fans will remember for all the wrong reasons. With the Cajuns down 3-1 in the seventh, it looked like they had taken a 4-3 lead with a two-run shot from Daniel Lahare out to right field.
The first and third base umpires signaled that it had gone out of the park, but after a meeting of the crew, the call was reversed and called a double by the crew. That sent Tony Robichaux out on the field to talk with the umpires, eventually the longtime head coach was tossed after an exchange of words with the crew chief.
The Cajuns seemed poised to put some runs on the board with no one out and runners on second and third, but were unable to get anyone across in the bottom of the seventh.
The Raiders got out to a 4-2 lead on a bases-loaded walk in the ninth, but the Cajuns started to fight back with two outs on the board. Kole McKinnon cut the lead down to one with a solo shot out to left field. However, after a Gavin Bourgeois single to left field, Hayden Cantrelle was seemingly thrown out at first, giving Wright State the series win.
Austin Perrin dropped to 0-2 on the year, allowing three runs off of seven hits, walked four, and struck out three in four innings of work.
The Cajuns will return to action on Wednesday when they take on Nicholls State (1-5) with first pitch set for 6 pm.
