Louisiana Pitcher Cooper Rawls received one of Collegiate Baseball’s National Player of the Week awards today. The sophoore trasnfer from Tyler JC was dominant in two outings this week for the Cajuns, including Wednesday night against Louisiana Tech, throwing 7.2 innings, surrendering 5 hits, 1 earned run, and striking out 12 en route to a 8-6 victory against the Bulldogs. He also threw 2 innings on Sunday against Arkansas State in Jonesboro to secure the win and the series sweep for Louisiana.
Rawls went 2 complete innings, giving up only one hit and striking out two Red Wolves to lock down the 7-4 win and the series sweep.
These performances over the last week were ore than enough for Rawls to receive this honor, sharing the title this week with two other pitchers and 11 total players including Rawls. This is the first weekly honor for Rawls, who could be in the mix for Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week.
Rawls and the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (18-14, 7-5 SBC) plays 4 home games this week, including McNeese (16-16, 3-6 SLC) tomorrow at 6:00 pm followed by a three-game set with ULM (10-19-1, 4-7-1 SBC) with first pitch times at 6:00pm Thursday and Friday, as well as 4:00pm on Saturday before Easter Sunday.
