Daniel Cormier will get another shot at the title.
The Lafayette native made the announcement on Twitter Tuesday morning that is returning to the octagon to take on Stipe Miocic for a third time. In a post to his Twitter account Cormier wrote “This one is for all the marbles. 1-1, both knockouts but great fights, I can’t wait to fight this dude again!! Now it’s time to work as hard as I ever trained.”
UFC President Dana White also made the announcement of the final chapter in the Cormier-Miocic trilogy while appearing on ESPN’s First Take.
The heavyweight title bout is schedule to take place on Saturday, August 15th.
The 41-year-old Cormier, a Northside High graduate, is a former two-division UFC world champion holding both the heavyweight and light heavyweight belts simultaneously. Cormier is the second fighter in UFC history to hold titles in two weight classes at the same, and the first to defend titles in two different divisions.
The first two bouts ended in knockouts with Cormier knocking out Miocic in the first round at UFC 226 in 2018. Miocic then won the rematch by knocking out Cormier in the fourth round of UFC 241 back in August of 2019.
