The McNeese Cowboys continued their six-week road trip by heading to San Antonio to take on Incarnate Word. The Cardinals jumped out to a 27-10 lead in the second half on their way to a 30-17 win over the Cowboys.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
McNeese got on the board late in the first quarter with a 36-yard touchdown pass from Camden Sixkiller to Jer’Michael Carter to put the Cowboys ahead 7-0.
Incarnate Word answered with a 19-play drive that took over six minutes off the clock before a 26-yard field goal to Brack Peacock to cut in the lead. Later in the quarter, the Cardinals took the lead on a 15-yard touchdown run from Zach Calzada, capping off a 65-yard scoring drive.
Both teams traded field goals on their final drives of the first half as the 13th team in the FCS held a 13-10 lead at the halftime break.
After an early three and out, UIW scored again on a 36-yard scoring drive as Dekalon Taylor scored from seven yards away to make it a 20-10 lead in San Antonio. The Cardinals defense forced another short drive from the Cowboys, taking just 58 seconds off the clock before getting the ball back once again. Richard Torres added even more points as he found Jalen Walthall for a 28-yard touchdown to increase the lead to 27-10.
McNeese answered with a quick 85-yard drive that took just five plays and two minutes as Joshon Barbie took off for a 38-yard touchdown run to cut into the lead at 27-17. However, UIW added three more as Peacock hit his third field goal of the game to make it 30-17 in the fourth quarter.
McNeese had the football on a late drive, but Sixkiller’s fourth down shot to the endzone fell incomplete.

Incarnate Ward dominated the time of possession in this game, really limiting the opportunities McNeese had.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Dekalon Taylor
The UIW running back went over the century mark as he rushed 25 times for 110 yards and a score in the win.
