The McNeese Cowboys (4-5, 1-3 SLC) will at last return home as they face the Texas A&M Commerce Lions (1-7, 1-2 SLC) on Saturday night in a Southland Conference matchup.
The Cowboys spent all of October on the road, losing each of the three games they played in. Most recently, they battled but fell 24-19 to the Nicholls Colonels in Thibodaux.
Kickoff inside Cowboy Stadium is set for 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 2nd. The game will be televised on ESPN+.
HOMECOMING IN SO MANY WAYS
McNeese finally gets to return to Cowboy Stadium for this game. After more than a month away from home, the friendly confines of Lake Charles will be a welcome site for the team.
In addition, the game is also actually McNeese’s homecoming. Multiple events are taking place around campus, including the Friday night block party. Therefore, it is a homecoming in every sense of the word for this road-tested group.
A NEW SIGNAL CALLER
McNeese has now officially lost Clifton McDowell for the remainder of the season. He is injured and will not play for the remainder of the year.
That means the keys are fully turned over to Kamden Sixkiller, who has already made a few starts this season. Sixkiller has shown some flashes, and might be the better passer of the two. However, the offense loses an element of the running game that McDowell offered.
RESETTING WITH THREE TO GO
With a combination of injuries, the long road trip, and a tough stretch of opponents, McNeese did not have the best month in October.
However, they now have a chance to reset a bit, returning home and trying to get healthier. Additionally, three games remain on the schedule with still a chance to finish the season with a winning record. That quest begins on Saturday against the Lions.
