The LSU Tigers baseball team defeated the McNeese Cowboys 10-3 on Tuesday night inside Alex Box Stadium. The loss for McNeese ends their winning streak at 12, where it stood as the nation’s longest entering the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
LSU started with freshman William Schmidt on the mound. The young pitcher worked around a couple of singles to put up a zero in the opening frame.
McNeese countered with lefty Parker Morgan. Morgan did not fare as well, as LSU got to him with a Jared Jones launched a two-run homer to gain and early 2-0 lead. Later in the inning, Jake Brown singled home a run to make it 3-0 and Morgan did not get out of the first.
The Tigers added another in the second, making it 4-0. It would remain that way until the top of the fourth, when the Cowboys got on the board. Larry Edwards Jr did the damage with a two-run shot to cut the lead in half and make it 4-2.
LSU answered that inning by doubling it up in the bottom half. Five hits and an error led to four Tigers’ runs, and gave them an 8-2 lead. It was at that point that they broke the game open.
McNeese had a few big scoring chances to help them get back into this one, but couldn’t find the clutch knock. They did get one back in the fifth, but failed to capitalize on a bases loaded one out opportunity. LSU stayed ahead 8-3.
The Tigers added two more runs to make it 10-3, and they also hit solid bullpen outings from multiple pitchers including Maverick Rizy. He struck out six over two and two thirds innings of work. LSU held on to win 10-3.
