The LSU Tigers softball team defeated the McNeese Cowgirls 12-2 on Tuesday night at Cowgirl Diamond. The win moves LSU to 32-4 overall and drops McNeese to 23-16. Both teams wore teal to promote Ovarian Cancer Awareness.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cowgirls turned to Kadence Williams on the mound, and she got off to a great start. She was able to get the Tigers in order to start the game. LSU started Jayden Heavener. She walked one, but also put a zero up in the first.
This game became a pitchers’ duel, but with two different approaches at keeping the opponent off the board. The Cowgirls left multiple runners on base in each of the next four innings. However, the Tigers offense was mostly dormant.
McNeese struck first in the bottom half of the fifth. With a couple of runners on, Rylie Bouvier delivered a two-run single to give her team a 2-0 lead. They tried for another run but were cut down at the plate, ending the inning.
LSU had more than an answer in the top half of the sixth. A couple of singles set the table and then Tori Edwards came through with a big home run. After that, Maddox McKee also added a two-run shot. By the end of the inning, the Tigers had a 6-2 lead.
The Tigers added insurance in the top of the seventh. Edwards added a sacrifice fly for an RBI. Then, McKenzie Redoutey launched a two-run shot to make it 9-2. By the end of the inning, the Tigers had added three more and put up their second consecutive six-spot. They held on to win 12-2.
BIG NUMBER: 6
McNeese did a great job keeping LSU off the board for five inning. However, a 6-spot in the 6th inning got the Tigers the huge advantage.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Tori Edwards
Edwards was a force in the middle of the order. She went 1-3, but drove in four runs including a big home run.
UP NEXT: LSU will return home to face Alabama for a three-game series at Tiger Park beginning on Friday night at 6:00 PM. McNeese will head to Hammond to face Southeastern for three beginning with a Friday double-header that starts at 4:00 PM.
