It’s been a busy awards season for the Bayou Bengals.
Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Jayden Daniels and wide receiver Malik Nabers were both named first-team All-Americans by the Associated Press on Monday.
Daniels had a spectacular season that saw him win the Golden Arm Award, Walter Camp Award, Davey O’Brien Award, AP Offensive Player of the Year, SEC Player of the Year, and the Heisman for just the third time in LSU’s history. He has thrown for 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns, and only four interceptions while rushing for 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns.
He became the first player in FBS history to pass for 350+ yards and rush for 200+ yards on November 11 vs Florida and also just the second SEC quarterback ever to have 3,500 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards in the same season.
Nabers, a Lafayette product, had a special season as well, catching 86 passes for 1,546 yards and 14 touchdowns to finish as one of the best wide receivers in the country. Nabers had over 100 yards in 9 of the 12 games LSU played in 2023, including a career-high 239 yards against Mississippi State.
LSU is preparing for the Reliaquest Bowl when they travel to Tampa, Florida to battle Luke Fickell’s Wisconsin team on New Year’s Day. You can hear all the action on ESPN 103.7 Lafayette and 104.1 Lake Charles
