Former Major League outfielder and broadcast analyst Darryl Hamilton was fatally shot at a suburban Houston home where his girlfriend was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Hamilton, 50, was born in Baton Rouge and played his college ball at Nicholls State before being drafted in 1986 by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 11th round.
Hamilton then spent the next 13 seasons with various teams, ending his career with the New York Mets. One notable moment in his career was hitting the first hit in the history of interleague play on June 12, 1997 against Darryl Hamilton.
Hamilton ended his career batting .291, hit 51 homers, and hit 454 RBIs in his career. After retirement, Hamilton became an on-air analyst for the MLB Network from 2003-2006.
