Do you have plans this Friday night?
If you are like most of Acadiana you will probably be at home, doing your part to stay isolated and reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our community. These are tough times, but that doesn’t mean we can’t all come together.
Downtown Lafayette Unlimited, the non-profit organizers of Downtown Alive! have begun a new initiative in response to the ongoing COVID-19 emergency. The project is called DTA! House Sessions—a series of virtual Friday night concerts that will bring live music into the homes of music lovers, allowing you to enjoy the talent of Acadiana’s local musicians from the safety of your home.
Right now, musicians in Acadiana are suffering from lost income due to canceled gigs. Many local artists (like the ones who play Downtown Alive!) earn a large portion of their income by playing live shows, something they cannot do at this time. The DTA! House Sessions were created as a way for local musicians to reach a wider audience through live stream concerts and to hopefully raise a little money in the process.
The performances will be broadcast live on the Downtown Alive! Facebook page. The audience is encouraged to leave tips for the artists performing, purchase DTA! merchandise (a portion of sales will go to local musicians), or donate to the Lost My Gig Fundraiser which has raised over $17,000 for out-of-work musicians in Acadiana.
How to tune-in
Performances will be broadcast via the Downtown Alive! Facebook page as a live video and will be shared on the Downtown Lafayette website and social media channels following the live stream. Tune in this Friday at 7:00 PM for Horace Trahan!
