Dustin Poirier Takes Rubber Match After McGregor Breaks Leg

After all the hype surrounding the trilogy fight between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier, it ended in the most unusual fashion with McGregor breaking his ankle late in the first round and doctors ruled he couldn’t continue.

The pace in the first round picked up early after McGregor hit a couple of leg kicks and the two traded a lot of big punches in the early going. McGregor took advantage by locking in a guillotine choke but Poirier was able to escape moments later and asserted his dominance on the ground, raining blows down on his opponent.

The two did eventually get back on their feet and exchanged punches and when McGregor took a step back, his ankle twisted underneath him and crumbled to the mat and Poirier landed several blows before the end of the first round. The ringside physician then called the fight off after looking at the injury and called the contest in favor of the Lafayette, Louisiana native.

With the victory, Poirier is now poised to wrap up a very busy 2021 with a lightweight championship match against Charles Olivera
