As the 2022 Quarter Horse Season nears its end, Evangeline Downs Racetrack Casino Hotel is preparing for the biggest weekend of the season. Stakes races begin Friday, December 16, and continue into Saturday, December 17, 2022, with the first post time of 5:35 pm each night.
The two nights of racing will feature 10 different stakes races including the LQHBA Louisiana Million which will run Saturday night. To celebrate this exciting conclusion of the racing season, Evangeline Downs and the Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association have partnered to create a fun atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.
As with other nights of live racing, admission to the track is free and open to all ages. Both nights of racing will include food trucks out in the paddock area, a special buffet in Silks Clubhouse, thrilling racing action, t-shirt tosses from the winner’s circle, and live entertainment. Friday, December 16, will feature a special Free commemorative t-shirt giveaway for Boyd Rewards members, as well as, a Live performance in Mojo’s Bar by Jeffery Broussard & the Creole Cowboys following the races.
Admission to the show is free. Guests must be 21 and older to attend. The festivities for Saturday, December 17, will kick off with Family Night at the Races from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. During this time, families can enjoy a strolling magician, balloon artist, and face painting.
In addition, to the Family Night activities, the LQHBA is raffling $15,000 in scholarships for high school students after the 5th race. Registration for the scholarship drawings will begin at 5:00 pm and will close after the 4th race of the evening. Boyd Rewards members who attend the races will be able to participate in the exciting $7,500 conclusion of the Pick 7 in the 7th Handicapping Contest.
Then, to close out the night, guests who are 21 or older will be able to attend a Free Wayne Toups concert in the Evangeline Downs Event Center. Doors open at 8:00 pm and the show starts at 9:00 pm. “Nights like these are a great display of the rich horse racing culture we have in Acadiana”, said Anthony Breaux, Director of Operations for Evangeline Downs.
