Kerry Joseph is picking up yet another honor.
The former New Iberia Senior High star and McNeese State standout quarterback will be inducted into the Saskatchewan Roughrider Plaza of Honour (Hall of Fame). The Roughriders made the announcement on Sunday evening.
Joseph played for the Roughriders from 2006-07 and then again in 2014, leading the team to the Canadian Football League Grey Cup in 2007.
The New Iberia native played in 40 games and racked up 8,097 passing yards which still ranks ninth in franchise history, to go along with 50 touchdown passes. Joseph also added 1,365 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns.
Joseph was selected as the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player in 2007 as well as being named a CFL and West Division All-Star that same year.
“I am very humbled to be inducted into the Saskatchewan Roughrider’s Plaza of Honour,” said Joseph in a statement released by McNeese State Athletics. “There are many great players in the Plaza of Honour and I am very excited to join those great men as a member of the 2019 class. I have to give thanks to God, my coaches, teammates and fans of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
“My wife and I were so excited when I received the call about my induction,” Joseph added. “I know the Saskatchewan Roughriders hold this Honour to a high standard therefore I have to say thank you to the Plaza Committee for my induction.
“I also need to say thank you to all of the coaches and teammates that have impacted my career from Little League football, high school, McNeese and the NFL. Football is the ultimate teammate sport therefore my heart shares this individual induction with all of you.
“I have always wanted my legacy to be a lifetime achievement that wasn’t defined by wins and losses. I feel that this Plaza induction helps me to build that legacy with the great fans of Saskatchewan.”
Joining Joseph as part of the 2019 class will be his former teammate, Neil Hughes who played from 2004-14 and was part of that 2007 Grey Cup championship team. The induction ceremony is scheduled for Aug. 22 at Mosaic Stadium.
In addition to joining the McNeese Sports Hall of Fame in 2006, Joseph was a 2012 inductee into the Southland Conference Hall of Honor.
Joseph played for the Cowboys from 1992-95 earning All-Southland Conference honors twice, was named the SLC Freshman of the Year in 1992 and the Louisiana Offensive Player of the Year in 1995.
Joseph served as co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach from 2016-17 at McNeese State, and then as co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach in 2018.
Joseph is currently the running backs/passing game coordinator at Southeastern Louisiana.
Joseph was also a Yellow Jacket star in football and track and field star in the late 1980’s to early 1990’s. His No. 11 jersey was retired at NISH back in 2008.
