Grant Fontenot is back in Division I baseball.
The former Lafayette High School and LSU pitcher announced via social media on Tuesday that he will play for the Texas Longhorns next spring.
Fontenot had a decorated career for Lafayette High in which he received All-District honors in the 2021 season. He was ranked as the number one player in Louisiana by Prep Baseball Report coming out of high school.
Fontenot originally attended LSU as a freshman in 2022. He did not pitch in his freshman season and opted to attend McClennan Community College in 2023. He logged 30 2/3 innings, posting a 3-1 record for the Highlanders.
In addition to pitching for McClennan in 2023, Fontenot pitched 14 2/3 innings for the Acadiana Cane Cutters in the Texas Collegiate League this summer.
Fontenot joins a Texas program that found itself just one game away from the Men’s College World Series in 2023, losing in Game 3 of the Stanford Super Regional. Coach David Pierce will be entering his eighth season at the helm of the Longhorns in 2024.
