Jace Peterson had a record-night at the plate.
The Moss Bluff native and former McNeese Cowboys star went 5-for-5 with a pair of two-run home runs in Oakland’s 11-2 victory over Pittsburgh on Tuesday night.
In addition to tying a career high with five hits and five RBI, Peterson also hit a milestone when he laced an RBI single off of Mitch Keller in the sixth inning. That hit was the 500th of his Major League Baseball career.
Peterson — who was batting in the eight hole — hit a two-run homer off of Pittsburgh’s Chase De Jong in the eighth inning. Peterson then hit another two-run blast off of De Jong in the ninth inning.
By going 5-for-5, Peterson raised his batting average from .194 to .218.
In 10 seasons in MLB, the 33-year-old utility player has appeared in 793 games, recorded 502 hits, 92 doubles, 41 home runs, 225 RBI and has a .230 career batting average.
Peterson has played for the San Diego Padres, Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, Milwaukee Brewers and Athletics.
Jace Peterson was a two-sport star at McNeese playing both baseball and football, but it was on the diamond where he made the biggest impact.
During his three-year Cowboys career from 2009-11, Peterson was a two-time first team all-Southland Conference selection in 2010 and 2011, and led the league with 35 stolen bases in 2010.
He was inducted into the McNeese Athletics Hall of Fame in 2018.
