Jack Bech is having a season for the ages.
The former St. Thomas More High star and current TCU wide receiver was named Tuesday as a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award — the award given to college football’s most outstanding wide receiver.
Bech’s 982 receiving yards are sixth in the country while he’s tied for eighth with nine touchdown catches. His 16 receptions of at least 20 yards tie for ninth in the FBS. He has 56 catches on the season.
Bech is also one of three players nationally ranked in the top 10 in receiving yards and touchdown catches.
The former STM star needs 18 yards to record the sixth 1,000-yard season in Horned Frogs history. He would become just the fifth player as Josh Doctson reached the mark in the 2014-15 seasons. The last Horned Frog with 1,000 yards was Quentin Johnston with 1,069 in TCU’s 2022 College Football Playoff season.
The Lafayette native posted four 100-yard games this season and three contests with multiple touchdown grabs. He had a career-high 10 receptions for 131 yards and two touchdowns in a 38-27 win at Kansas and totaled a career-best 200 yards receiving, including a 50-yard touchdown, on nine catches versus UCF.
Bech began his collegiate career playing for the LSU Tigers.
As a freshman during the 2021 season, he led the Tigers in receptions with 43 for 489 yards and three receiving touchdowns. Dealing with injuries and reduced playing times, Bech only had 16 receptions for 200 yards and one touchdown in 2022.
