One of the surprises of the 2017 season for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns has been true freshman Jack Burk. His emergence as the Cajuns midweek starter has been something to admire as he seems to be getting ready for a bigger role in 2018.
However, he suffered an injury back in the Southeastern game back on April 19th and hasn’t made an appearance since that game. Heading into the final week of the regular season, head coach Tony Robichaux said that there was a chance that he could be ready to go for the Sun Belt Conference tournament.
Cajuns pitching coach Daniel Freeman came on Bumper to Bumper Sports with Ben Love on Tuesday and basically said that the freshman out of New Orleans was done for the season.
“We were hoping he was going to work through it, but with the timeline running out, I see him resting the rest of the year and rehabbing during the summer.” Freeman said of Burk’s status. “We’re not going to push him, it’s nothing serious but we don’t want to risk anything. If we try to send him out right now, there’s a very good chance he could have an injury that will require surgery.”
Extra Bases:
Cajuns Starter for Wednesday: It should come as no surprise that Gunner Leger will start for the Cajuns in their first game of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The big question is when the game will happen. The Sun Belt released a statement that no game on Wednesday will start until after 11 am as they will be spending the morning looking at the field conditions and determines if they can play on at J.I. Clements Stadium. The Georgia Southern Eagles will be starting lefty Evan Challenger to counteract Leger.
