The SEC announced its 2023 preseason polls today. To no surprise, the Georgia Bulldogs were picked to win the Eastern division as well as the overall conference.
There was, however, a surprise in the Western division. The Alabama Crimson Tide narrowly beat out the defending West champions, LSU. While the vote was close, Alabama received 165 first place votes, and LSU got only 117. The Crimson Tide have been an interesting team to analyze this offseason, given their uncertainty at quarterback.
Overall, LSU was picked to finish second in the West and received the third most votes to win the conference overall, trailing just Alabama and Georgia. It is interesting to note that the media has correctly picked the champion nine times in 32 years.
The Tigers were well represented with eleven players making pre-season ALL-SEC, led by Jayden Daniels who got First-Team quarterback honors. Georgia led the way with 16 selections on the First, Second, and Third teams.
The college football season gets underway on Saturday, August 26th.
