While the final scores are concerning to some of the fanbase, the end result is all that matters and they were all wins for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns over the weekend against Appalachian State. With that in mind, let’s take a look back at the weekend that was for the Cajuns and grade out their performances!
Offense: B+
What a weekend for the Ragin Cajuns offense to wake up. Yes they were up against a horrible team in Appalachian State, but this was the same team that lost a series against Wright State early on in the season. You take the positives wherever you can get them and having three home runs, five doubles, and batting .237 over the weekend is something to grow on.
Infield Defense: D+
It was yet another rough week for the Cajuns infield defense with three errors. It’s the lone negative for the Cajuns this weekend, but it’s become a recurring theme.
Outfield Defense: B+
The outfield had a relatively ho-hum weekend with no errors and no significant web gems.
Weekend Rotation: A-
The final grade for the Cajuns weekend rotation was solid despite a rough start on Friday by Colten Schmidt, allowing three runs in the first. He redeemed himself after the first inning, allowing only three hits, giving the Cajuns a chance to rally back.
Jack Burk had an okay outing hampered by allowing three runs in the seventh. Hogan Harris was phenomenal in his first extended outing of the season, allowing only four hits in seven innings of work. That performance in the series finale really bumped up their grade.
Bullpen: B+
If there’s one takeaway from the weekend it’s that Nick Lee is solid as a closer. He allowed one run off of two hits and struck out five over the weekend. If Stoelke is out for a significant time, the bullpen could be fine with Michael Leaumont and Nick Lee showing their skills as a closer.
Overall Grade: A-
